What is Qwerty Films?

Qwerty Films is a feature film development and production business and media consultancy based in London. The team, Michael Kuhn, Malcolm Ritchie and Jill Tandy, were among the senior managers who established and ran PolyGram Filmed Entertainment, one of the few examples of a Europe-based worldwide studio built from scratch. Qwerty Films together with Citibank raised a fund to finance a slate of international features films which to date have included SEVERANCE, ALIEN AUTOPSY, STAGE BEAUTY, I HEART HUCKABEES, KINSEY, WONDROUS OBLIVION and THE MOGULS.

Qwerty Films has recently produced Saul Dibb’s Oscar and BAFTA-award winning film THE DUCHESS, starring Keira Knightley.

The Programme Directors are Jill Tandy and Julia Short
(Co-Managing Director of Verve Pictures) and the Programme Producer is Victoria Lorkin-Lange.

What is Skillset?

Skillset is the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries covering broadcast, film, video, interactive media and photo imaging. It is licensed by UK government but is owned and managed by the industry to develop the skills of the workforce to increase productivity and competitiveness. Skillset, in conjunction with the UK Film Council, has developed the £50m UK Film Skills Strategy A Bigger Future which will allow the UK industry to compete on the basis of the highest level skills. Its aim is to make the UK film industry the most highly skilled and creative in the world. www.skillset.org

What is the UK Film Council?

The UK Film Council is the Government-backed lead agency for film in the UK, supporting the film industry, celebrating our film culture and nurturing our film talent at home and abroad. Since its creation in 2000 the UK Film Council has backed more than 900 films, shorts and features, which have won over 300 awards and entertained more than 200 million people around the world.   

Its support develops new filmmakers, funds exciting new British films and gets a wider choice of films to audiences throughout the UK. It also invests in training British talent, promoting Britain as an international filmmaking location and raising the profile of British films abroad. In addition, it funds the British Film Institute.  Films backed by the UK Film Council include MAN ON WIRE, NOWHERE BOY, BRIGHT STAR, IN THE LOOP, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY, BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, THE CONSTANT GARDENER, GOSFORD PARK, RED ROAD, ST TRINIAN’S, THIS IS ENGLAND, TOUCHING THE VOID, VERA DRAKE and THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY.
